Good find Raylen - it was obvious that they weren't married in Australia by and I wouldn't be at all surprised that Malcolm  was not born here either - even though it was stated he was born at Stoney Creek on his marriage cert.

Good find Sue and I am sure you are correct - Donald not Ronald.

Will have another look at the shipping records.

Cheers

Hi,
Victorian immigration passenger listings do show a couple of Donald Gillies pairings that look like father and son. Arriving 1850's.  might give 2 generations of  births with Donald Gillies as father.

Sue I think that this group of GILLIES on the MILTIADES could  include  Donald and Catherine.  The death cert showed Donald's father to be Roderick.

GILLIES   Angus   10   OCT 1852   MILTIADES   7   26
GILLIES   Catherine   48   OCT 1852   MILTIADES   7   26
GILLIES   Catherine   14   OCT 1852   MILTIADES   7   32
GILLIES Catherine   23   OCT 1852   MILTIADES   7   26
GILLIES Donald   23   OCT 1852   MILTIADES   7   26
GILLIES   Donald   12   OCT 1852   MILTIADES   7   26
GILLIES John   1   OCT1852   MILTIADES   7   26
GILLIES   Murdoch   18   OCT 1852   MILTIADES   7   31
GILLIES   Roderick 52   OCT1852   MILTIADES   7   26

I know the ages aren't spot on but that's shipping records ::)  Catherine aged 23 is right.

I think this is probably getting very confusing for shazo4 as she has mentioned this is her first venture into family history - perhaps a summary may help her.  Some of the bdm information has been duplicated.

For those who are interested in this thread - spent a bit of time on this family and with shaz04 and a couple of death certs, it has now been established that the shipping records above are that of the correct family.  There has been a mistranscription of Roderick's wife's name - should be Christina and the age of Donald is incorrect.

I would imagine that shaz04 will probably be back asking for more lookups as she builds her family tree ;D
