Malcolm & Mary Brennan seem to be Thomas's parents but there are also Malcolm & Mary Brennans listed with other children (as above) & no Thomas?
Also the birth of Ioleen to Malcolm & Mary in Noorat?

Have you looked at Victorian Immigration records.
There are some Gillies family groups arriving.  Some with right sort of given names but wrong ages.

Its very interesting, I'll try to search all these names & see if I can find anymore on Malcolm & Mary (& the stepmother)

You will need the reg # 4714.  Cost is $17.50 and you can download the image immediately.  Bit too handy at times

The marriage cert should show their parents names and mothers' maiden names and fathers' occupations, their places of birth and occupations and their marriage status, addresses and ages at time of marriage.

I'll have a quick look for the 2nd marriage.

There is a marriage in 1905 of a Donald GILLIES to a Christina STEWART Reg# 3368.  His birth place given as BRTN and hers TERANG.

Have trawled the deaths registrations for Malcolm GILLIES and the following one may be  possibility

GILLIES  Malcolm
Father Gillies Donald  Mother Catherine  MCLEAN
at TERANG  64 years  1923  Reg# 8093

There are other births to Donald GILLIES and Catherine McLean in the 1860's and I note a number of deaths between 1921 and 1985 showing Donald and Catherine as parents.   A certificate or two would help you on your way.

I got the marriage certificate dated 13/12/1877 for Malcolm Gillies of Stony Creek Talbot & Mary Ann Brennan of Talbot (that is very handy I agree  )

Malcolm was 21 a labourer & his parents were Donald Gillies (a farmer)& Catherine McLean.
Mary Ann was 18, A domestic servant & her parents were James Brennan (a miner) & Elizabeth McGarry.

There was also another marriage on the certificate is that common? also in Talbot different names.

This gets quite addictive doesnt it?  thanks again

Well you have the correct death for Malcolm with parents Donald and Catherine.

Yes quite common - you have an image of the page of a register.  In later years you only get the record you request.
