census look ups please, 1920 & 1930
« on: Friday 29 February 08 21:23 GMT (UK) »
Would like info on 2 people with same name who went to Canada in 1919.

Henry John Oakley born 1886 Islington London and his son also Henry John Oakley born 1908 Islington London. Elder Henry according to passenger list was a machinist.

Any info would be greatly received. Many thanks.

Hi Wendy,

1920 and 1930 census are not available for Canada, yet :)

Where in Canada did they go to as each Province has different resources.

Karen
Gandley (but known as Stanley in Canada)- Ireland to Birmingham
Ball, Kempson & Franklin - Birmingham
Shorter - Surrey
Dyer - Devon
Dawkins - Co. Cork, Ireland
Heffernan - Ireland
Huck - Alsace, France
Reinhart - Baden, Germany
Bowman & Ellis - England
Etheridge - Gloucestershire

Who all came to Canada in a little row boat, clap clap, clap your hands!!

Hi Karen, Thanks for your reply I didn't realise they were not availble as yet, silly me.

I think they went to Quebec or at least that is where it stated he was intending to land.

Again many thanks Karen.

Think you are getting confused with 1920 and 1930 U.S. Census records (available on Ancestry). Latest available Canadian census is 1911. Next two would be 1921 and 1931.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

If you know the date/name of the ship, you can look at the original passenger list here:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/archivianet/passenger/001045-100.01-e.php
(Even if you don't, there are only 14 hits for Glasgow-->Quebec in 1919, so you should be able to find them eventually).
