Ahh there you go...

RHA, RFA all artillery, all mounted....Still...One of these days I will actually open these pics instead of just looking in situ!

The artillery cap badge is always a clincher, no mistaking in that!

One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

If you are looking for a date, they are pre summer 1916, as the wire stiffeners were taken out of SD caps at that point, by army instruction by all arms and services....

Hi  :)

If you have microsoft's's Picture Manager you can resize the image to a 'web small' size, then choose 'Save As' and give the photo a different name to the original.  When you come out and it says "there are changes that have not been saved, do you wish to save these!" choose "No" as that is the original photo, so that the original stays as it should be.

If you don't have  the above software, there is also a little programme called 'Irfanview' that you can download and use to resize documents/photos..

Hi myfair lady

First an apology - I was so excited at seeing a uniform that I could identify and anxious to show off that I forgot to say hello and welcome to rootschat.  If you look around you will find that there are many nice people all willing to help on any genealogy problem and much better at it than I am.

The moderators or other experienced users can give you accurate advice about the desirable size of pictures but the size I reduced them to (using irfanview) was 1014 x 822.  There was nothing wrong with giving us the big picture - if you had started from small we would only have been wanting you to rescan the badges and other details at high resolution.  As it was we could see from your first post that the badges were RA, the men were wearing spurs and the stick things looked like standard RA riding crops.  And Old Rowley could read the shoulder badge accurately.

Good luck
