This is before government bmds in any province, so we'd need to look at church records.

So:
Where were their children born?
Which church did they attend?
Have you found them on the 1851/2 census of Canada?

Here is a link to another thread on Rootschat. It looks like they could have married in Cobourg area of Ontario.

Yes, John is listed on the 1851...I don't have access to the census but I am sure someone with ancestry can get that for you...
John Southon in Ontario - Peel County as born about 1822
*There is also a Jane Findly in Ontario - Dundas County born about 1819
If both locations are correct then it will be hard to find the place of marriage...
J.J.

*note: Have now seen that the Jane Findly mentioned above is married with children, which probably rules her out...

**Also now have information she was born in U.S. ...N.Y.

Thanks JJ for your info. The Southon brothers John, Henry, Thomas, Gabriel and Caleb - it is all very complicated as I have found out. They were all left a lot of money and spent it on travel going to and fro to USA, Canada, and Australia. The brothers named their children with the names of each other. Some stayed in Australia. A lot of info has come to me in the posts on this site. Regards Poppyann

 :D elsewhere you say :
There were 5 sons (Stephen, Henry, Thomas, John & Gabril) on the 1841 census but I can't see any of them in 1851. Huh  Perhaps they had joined the army?

Sorry...reading on I see that there were six sons...Hard to keep up with this one...
So who knows who the father of Caleb is, then... ::)    ;D   J.J.
