A lot of manor houses which were originally built in the 17th century had moats; it didn't need to be a castle.

Horsepool Grange dates back to at least the 16th century.  See

If you search on google (or whatever) for

"Horsepool Grange" Leicestershire History

you will get a number of replies.  If you pick the one from British History on line and then search for Horsepool Grange using the << on the tool bar you will go straight to the first entry.  It is rather buried in the text.
