« on: Wednesday 05 March 08 23:45 GMT (UK) »
How would one find details regarding a persons WW1 record'
Details known from my wife about her grandfather :-

Jonas Lockett, b.1881 Salford, was in charge of  horse drawn gun carriage, horses name "Dolly", Jonas was invalided out suffering from mustard gas.
Is it possible to trace anything from the above ?
                           Thanks Bodger

Hi Bodger

Useful Link:

In short, if Jonas was not an Officer, there is a high chance his WW1 Personal File was destroyed during an Air Raid in the WW2.....I can't see Jonas - but I did see a Pension record for a James LOCKETT b abt 1887 Salford, though - any relation?

Jonas  may be listed though in the medal cards:

A search on Jonas LOCKET(T) has no result - but try J LOCKET(T) :

There is:
J LOCKETT in East Lancashire regiment
J H LOCKETT in Manchester Regiment
J LOCKETT in North Staffs Regiment
J LOCKETT in Royal Fusiliers

Do you know what  his army number was?

His birth registration seems likely to be the one on FREEBMD as "Joans LOCKETT", Sep Qtr 1882, Salford?

Cheers

Hello Bodger,

I found Jonas on the 1891 census (RG12; Piece 3218; folio 47; page 13) at 57 Rutland St, Salford, with parents Charles and Ellen and siblings.
In 1901 (RG13; piece 3730; folio 81; page 33) he is still with the family, but at 21 Paradise Row, Salford. He is a raiser at a bleach works.

Having found he existed under that name I went through all the J locketts on the MICs and think this may be him, mis-transcribed as Jonds Lockett:
