Trouble is there are 8 possibles on the medal cards but there are no adresses.  He obvously wasn't artillary or involved in the fighting.  He was definitely in France.  He was a trained quarry man and thats what he did, presumably to build roads there.  He wasn't wounded or invalided out so no records there. All I know was he didn't receive his medals at the end of the war but he didn't particularly care.

Medals to other ranks were sent out to the address on their records...If he moved house or they were unable to trace him the medals will have been returned to the Army....unfortunately their was a cut off time and after that they were broken up :(

If you can identify his MIC it may have all this annotated on it that they were returned not claimed.

He was entitled to medals.  He didn't move house.  They just never came.  A number of years later there was a notice for people to apply but he wasn't interested.  I think he felt it was a farce anyway.  He came home with a meershaum pipe a german had given to him and they kept up correspondence for several years till the 2nd World War.  I think the germans he knew were quarrymen like himself.  He lost his job as a quarryman when he became spokesperson and complained about the drop in wages and was sacked as a Trade Union Troublemaker after the war.

Hi Chris

As both mmm45 and myself are leading you to the same medal index card, (see previous posts) it might be worth downloading it to check it out ... if you think it worthwhile that is.  You'd get 6 peoples MICs in the one download so a good chance your man would be amongst them.

Alternatively, you might want to check-out the RE site:
