WWI Regiment No.
« on: Friday 07 March 08 12:34 GMT (UK) »
My great grandfather William Deller born 18 Sep 1885, Wandsworth served during WW1. I have photo's of him but sadly no medals or regiment numbers. When i have searched index records a number of possible records show up but none look like London based regiments.

It's a tricky one but wondered whether there is a resource out there to at least get hold of the correct medal index card.

Yer Matthew don't assume that just 'cos he was born in Wandsworth he joined a London Regiment !!!

Do you know if he had a middle name?  Have you got his birth certificate?

Did he survive the war?

Looking at the National Archives medal cards I can see several possibilities including London Regiments.

Can you post a good photo of him in uniform ? If so we can probably narrow the field considerably.

He was born 18 Sep 1885 Wandsworth, Streatham. He has no middle name and certainly survived the war. My father thinnks he died in the 1950s.

I can see the picture but I can't make out the cap badge - is it possible to post a higher quality crop of that part of the picture?
