Edward Rowlands 1821? Towyn
« on: Friday 07 March 08 12:58 GMT (UK) »
I am tracing the Rowlands from Towyn and it seems to be a huge family.
I have my ggfather Francis born 1862ish he maried Sarah? and i think i am on the right track when i pick Francis up in the census living with
Edward and Sarah (parents) and Jacob (brother) in 1861.
I am having trouble tracing Edward before that
Any ideas

many thanks

Birthyears and birthplaces are very important when looking at census entries and should be included in all requests - I had to look him up on the 1861 to get that info

1851 - birthplace and name are spelt correctly and his occupation is the same as 1861 - see

Hi

From your opening message you appear to have census access to Ancestry - is that correct?

If so - if you use this type of search facility it will give you 3 entries - one of which is for Towyn

Edward Rowland**  Merionethshire 1820+ or - 2 years

As I've mentioned on another post, I think we're related. My great-grandfather was Jacob Rowlands , who had brothers called Francis and John/Jonathan .
My grandmother was one of his 4 children, but she was the only one of three daughters  who had children of her own. The one son, Edwrad(Ned) also has Rowlands descendants, still bearing that name. Jacob and John worked on the Talyllyn railway, and John drove the engines (featured in Thomas the tank series as Skarloey and Rheneas). My father (whose great-uncle was your great-grandfather) is very unwell and in his eighties, but I think he knows who Francis's grandfather was.  He'll phone me when he knows. I can also tell you bit about other Jacob descendants ! If you look at the Talyllyn-railway website, you'll find information about us on a newsletter around Feb 2007.
