I would assume that the Records Office at Carlisle would have (copies of?) the registers, but I'm only guessing.

Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened.

Yes, I know they at least have copies-I'm just wondering if the originals are still with the parishes. Actually I could easily ask them.  I've found the Cumbria Archive Service very easy to work with--do you have experience with similar entities in other counties?

Hello Lynne. Here are your Armstrong inscriptions:-

Sacred to the memory of William Armstrong of Nenthead, who departed this life
May/7?/18?? aged 65 years
Also Mary his wife, who died May/2/18?? age 75 years.
Also of John their son, who died May/1/18?? aged 65 years.
Also of Hannah his wife, who departed this life January/12/1857 aged 72 years.

To the memory of Jane Armstrong, Garrigill Gate, who died June ye 6th aged 60 years of age, 1762.

There was another stone for a John Armstrong but it was covered in most part by moss and other growth and I decided to leave alone. (to preserve the stone)
It was a lead infill type of inscription for a John Armstrong. This type was usually for gravestones from 1890 until around about 1920.

looking for Vipond burials from Garrigill, i have the following:

Nicholas Vipond, Loaning Head,
born 1655, died  1709,bd 22 May 1709 at St John's
his wife, Abigail, born 1660,d. 1708
(wondered if the stones were still there)

his brother, Richard Vipond, died 1701 (no birth date)

Nicholas, son of 1st Nicholas, married to Margaret Hullock b. 1705 (need death date)

also a mystery concerning death date for Lydia,b. 1762 daughter of Nicholas Vipond and Martha Allison.  there are two death dates listed from various sources; one in 1789 and the other one much earlier. any way to verify by a stone which date is correct?
both Nicholas and Martha are buried in St. John's.

thanks for the help.
