James SIMON of Greenfield in 1855
« on: Friday 02 April 04 16:14 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone.. :) I am seeking any information on James SIMON who had a farm at Greenfield in 1855.

This is the inscription written inside a Bible my Great Grandfather John WILLIAMS brought with him when he migrated to Tasmania, Oz. aged 27.

Presented to John Williams, when on point of his embarking for Van Diemans Land April 1855,as a small token of his steady and industrious conduct for the term of 9 years, 1 & 1/2 of which he acted as farm bailiff in which capacity he proved himself competent.

Signed.......James SIMON
                  Greenfield
                  near Holywelll
                  Flintshire. Wales

I am hoping that someone may be able to help me here in finding any Simons Family relatives that owned the farm.

Cheers.....Tassie :)

In the Trade directory for 1286-1874 I found a Miss Cornelia Simon living at High Street Holywell listed under  "Nobility, Gentry and Clergy"

Also

David Simon Farmer in Whiteford Parish 1874-1883 at Twll and

Hi Sarah.

Can you tell me where the Whiteford Parishes were....as in which area of Wales?

I wonder where I can locate info about Greenfield and the land owners of that time.Do you have any idea?

Cheers and thanks

Hello Tassie,

Whiteford Parish comes under Holywell, and also includes the parish's of Mostyn Quay, Greenfield, Mostyn, Bagillt, Halkin and Rhes y Cae.

I have been unable to find it on the map but I thought it may be close enough to be of interest.

Hi Sarah,

On the 1851 cencus for Holywell I noted the following:

Charlotte Harrison............sister, widow 50  Holywell,Flint
Cornelia Harrison...............niece u17 Holywell,Flint
Robert Simon.....................brother m 48 Merchant, Holywell,Flint
Ann Simon.........................sister-in-law, m 36 Manchester, Lanc
Jane Hughes.....................u27 house servant, Prestatyn, Flint
Ellen Williams ...................u24 house servant, Eglwys Fach, Deb

192 Tai Coed 13
John Williams..............u26 carter, Ceirchiog, Anglesey

This would be my great grandfather, as he lived at Wooden Cottages, which is the English translation of Tai Coed
