Probably...The strap is as one would expect on a "Trench Watch"...

Another note if I may...His stance is not very soldierly...rather hunched over....and not for the purposes of the photo...there is plenty of room at the top!....

also  ;D  he wearing his tunic over his civies by the look of the collar!

Thank you so much for all of that fascinating info! It is amazing what a fresh pair of eyes can see - I would never have spotted his hunch or collar! 

I think you are right about the watch, I have looked really closely at it, and it looks as if the strap has been tied or knotted at the back because it is far too big for her wrist! ;D ;D Knowing the regiment will really help to narrow down my list of who they might be, though it is made harder by the fact the picture was taken in Exmouth and I don't know of any of my family ever having lived there!
