going to New Zealand
« on: Tuesday 11 March 08 12:54 GMT (UK) »
 >:( ???  In need of some help I have a relation in New Zealand age about 92 called Gertrude Luft - she is married to William Luft (deceased I think), her mother was Mary Jane Armstrong born in Cudworth, Yorkshire in December 1888.  I am trying to find out whether Mary Jane emigrated as well when she married or just Gertrude.  Mary Jane's parents Henry and Jane Armstrong.  Mary Jane one of 14 children.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I have written to Trudy Luft but am not sure whether she herself is still living.

Do you know when and where Gertrude married William, and when they went to NZ? I can't see them on findmypast.

I have no idea when Gertrude married William, but I think her mother married either Samuel Hatton or JohnEdwin Hatton in 1908 oct/nov/dec in Barnsley

Just looking for LUFT name there is little and nothing for a William
In the White pages now, there is only one entry, a Dr in Napier.
They have a website, maybe they are related

I found a Lucy Luft in the 1893 electoral roll which was the first roll that had women included.   Not sure what happened to her after that because I could find no trace of a death or a marriage at the LDS FHC.   Of course it doesn't give her age so she may have been quite old and married before registration although not sure why I couldn't find her death.   Details in 1893 are that she was married and resided in Westport.   I could find no other Lufts at all.   Do you know Mary Ann Armstrong's married name?

Sorry I have no idea who Mary Jane Armstrong married.  Gertrude married a William Luft and lives in Nelson NZ - but as for Mary Jane not entirely sure could be a man named Hatton but have no first name as there were two with same name on marriage records.

But if a Hatton did go to NZ that could well be her.
