I don't think the Wolverhampton registration can be the right one, even allowing for a little leeway in age - Sarah is only 2 in 1871 if this is the right lass.  But like you, I can't see anything else vaguely possible...  ???

Perhaps her birth wasn't registered (some weren't!), or she's under EDWARDS or another surname?  It's a nuisance she doesn't seem to know where she was born, as there are plety of Sarah Anns to choose from!

I'll see if I can spot Matthew EDWARDS in 1861.

Well it's certainly an interesting coincidence - I wonder how many CHOLMONDLEY canal people there were?  I wouldn't have thought it was a really common name...

I've had another look at Sarah's place of birth on the 1871 census: I originlly read it as "Whipton", but now I wonder whether it's meant to be an abbreviation for Wolverhampton?  (I guess that "Bildis" is Buildwas in Shropshire, so spelling obviously wasn't a strong point!)

Well, I suppose it means that this Edward WILD married Isabella HALE, although I can't see an Edward-Isabella couple on census at the moment...  ???

It looked a good match, but if the record office say the cert isn't for Edward and Mary, it can't be the right one, I'm afraid.

ADDED:  There's a death in Shoreditch in 1855 for an Isabella Jane WILD, so guess that's her.
