Now I have John's rank etc I was wondering if anyone would mind finding me his service records?  It would be most appreciated.

Let me know if you need more details on him.

Thanks in advance.

:o Hanan this is worth bearing in mind

There is a MIC for Donald McLean who was Private 25482 Royal Highlanders and later 170047 Private in The Royal Army Medical Corps.  This man survived the war.

It's not clear cut as there are no Donald MacLeans in RAMC but 2 other Donald McLeans one with the middle initial C.

are they the same soldier ???

I've dug out the family photo's trying to decide if these are both John.  They seem to be.  I have 6 photo's in all, the family have written on the back of the photographs "John 'Jack' McLean".

Having looked at them I think John started out in the Cameron then moved onto the RAMC.  He looks much younger in the Cameron photos.

Is there any trace of a John McLean in The Royal Army Medical Corps?

Hi Wendi,

No middle name mentioned on any of the documents I have for him.

He was born in Glenshiel, does that help narrow it down a bit?

I've had a look on ancestry and I see there is a John McLean listed with the Royal Army Service Corps, I can't view the record to check if it's him but is the Royal Army Service Corps different from The Royal Army Medical Corps?

My knowledge of all things military is very limited.

if you've got access to ancestry,  search for john in the cameron highlanders (20878) first

RASC isn't the same as RAMC btw ;)
