John Raeburn Inverurie COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 11 March 08 18:40 GMT (UK) »
I have traced my family to John Raeburn of Inverurie who was married in Monymusk in 1850. I can't find details of his birth. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi

What was his birthyear from either census info or his marriage cert?  Aren't his parents names shown on his marriage certificate?

Hello Rickr

So, Your John was obviously the one married to Christina Fraser on 12 May 1850 (IGI, 'extracted').  www.familysearch.org

If you've got his marriage -you ? have his death entry with age of death.  Whch country did he die in?

The more info you give the more 'lurkers' like me can help.

Regards,   Steve   :O)

Off to get children in case you don't have them  :O)

From the IGI

Can only find 2?

Both born Inverurie, Aberdeenshire - both 'extracted' - meaning copies can be obtained on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (PPV site)

1.  Robert Raeburn b. 23 Nov 1855 - this cert has to be downloaded as it will have unique info on it  - being the first year of national registration.  Mother is down as 'Christian'.
2.  James Raeburn b.  07 Feb 1858

Regards,   Steve   :O)

Hi,
I've got marriage and I've traced children directly to me, but I can't get any further back as I can't find a birth record or parents names.
Thanks for your help so far.

Hi Rick

You would have probably looked at that birth cert that Steve refers to for Robert b. 1855.  Did it show how many children they had following their marriage - alive/deceased. Did it also confirm his age and place of birth?  Have you looked at wife Christina's death cert to confirm the names of her parents?

Regards.

This looks to be John's 1851 census entry:

John Raeburn    28, innkeeper, b. Chapel, Aberdeen
Christian Raeburn 27, b.Woodside, Aberdeen
Ann Bisset    18, servant
Isabella Chisholm 18, servant
James Cran 26, servant
William Dunbar 58, lodger

Address: Raeburns Inn, Inverurie

And in 1861, everyone showing as born in Inveriny (Inverurie most likely):

John Raeburn    40, spirit dealer
Sarah Raeburn    9
John Raeburn    8
Bertina Raeburn 6
Robert Raeburn    4
James Raeburn    3
Sarah Fraser    26, servant (is this a sister to wife Christina?

Address: Browns Close, Edinburgh High Church
