Once again this is all fantastic info.

I have one further question for now. I am really interested in what takes Emily Colbourn out to Tasmania. I havent found a reason so far why she would go by herself from London in her early 20s. As you know she marries Herbert Howard Perkins in Dec 1878 to return to London in Dec 1880. You said that the authorities were more interested in who arrived rather than who left. Is it possible to find records of her arriving in Tasmania between 1871-1877. Also iI wonder if she travelled to Tasmania alone or with others. There may be some clues in the passenger lists. If you find her, who are the other listed with her? Are there any Colbourn's, Brown's, Watchorn's or Chapman's? If not an other names next to her may be a clue.

Sorry to keep throwing things at you. I'll slow down now as normal life returns after xmas - kids back to school, me back to work etc.
