A Big Thank You to Annie
« on: Thursday 13 March 08 01:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi All (and especially Annie)

Some time ago, 1st February, you told me that there were some records for the Fife Militia in the National Archives. I had a look online and found records for a David Morrison who I thought could be the brother of the elusive ancestor (James Morrison) I've been chasing for months and months. Well, I got the records a couple of days ago - 45 years in the Militia, 30 of them as a "good and zealous non commissioned officer", and a lovely description of him.

This then led to me following up on all the branches and twigs of the family and discovering that not only my ancestor, James Morrison, and his brother David but three of James' sons had all been in the Army. (Unfortunately, I couldn't find any records for any of them in the NA though I have found them in various census returns in England and Scotland.)

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I had a brain wave this evening and got David's death certificate from Scotland's People and who should be the signatory on the death certificate - yes - his brother James. So I now have confirmed the next link in the chain, James' parents names, which are very helpfully printed on Scottish records.

So that is another brick wall demolished because Annie gave me that little tip. Rootschat is like a great big cornfield, seeds are sown and results are reaped.

Many thanks.

Regards

Ruby
