Frank Webb
« on: Thursday 13 March 08 16:54 GMT (UK) »
I almost gave up hope of finding my late Great Grandfather and then out of the blue his wedding photo (1/9/17)turns up with a clear indication that he served in the Royal Scots during WW1 , BUT.......
There was only two Frank Webb's that served with Royal Scots during ww1 and i need to know any information about the pair, that links them to my family.

FRANK WEBB Loyal Lancs 15956 / Roayl Scots 45019 15/6/15
FRANK WEBB Royal Scots 2881 / Tank Corp 95601 5/6/15

Both saw action in the Balkans and also both started around the same time.

Thanks if you can help

might be a dumb question but was your GGF scottish? if so i'd concentrate on the guy that went into the Royal Scots first

it's a low, ie regular or territorial number and if he joined early war he was more likely to join a local regiment. this isn't a strict rule but it's a good guide

have you done a search on ancestry for medal cards and pension records?

We (The family left alive) don't know if was a Scot....
I've got both medal cards , but nothing sticks out and any research via ancestry.co.uk has drawn a blank.Anything that comes near is a Manchester family , but the FW in the 1891 census was born in 1888 and then the family vanish in 1901.
All i know from his wedding certificate is that he was 30 in 1917 and his father's name was George and he was a warehouseman.

why not post the photo from the wedding album and let us see if there are any clues in that

so we would want to see any shoulder titles badges etc

you never know ;)

If i could find out when one FW joined and one left the Royal Scots i might be able to work out from the wedding photo as i've at least got an exact date the photo was taken (1/9/17).

Unless you could get the record from ancestry, i think that would involve a trip to Kew

(both seem to have survived the war btw)
