Marriage licences in Ireland
« on: Thursday 13 March 08 17:59 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know whether it is possible to view or obtain marriage licences for Ireland?  I am interested in marriages in Tipperary in the 1860s.

Regards

Civil registration of Catholic marriages in Ireland began 1864 (from 1845 for non-Catholic marriages). For earlier dates you need to search for church records (if they still exist).
LDS site have some, but certainly not all, Irish marriages at www.familysearch.org but in general you have to order civil marriage certificates from GRO or contact the church.
If you post a query on Tipperary board with the names, date or approximate date, and any other information you do already know someone should be able to tell you how to obtain the information you want.

Thanks for the reply.  I do already have the marriage details and the names of fathers of both parties.  As the marriage was by licence I just wanted to know if any of these licences were still in existence.

Thanks

Probably depends on date and church. Have seen a few pre-registration ones in various church records.
