Hi,

I hope everyone has managed to get into the site now. I have just found that my original link is no longer working for me but that the one posted by Sue is fine. Let's hope it stays that way until we have all found eeverything of interest - which means for ever, I suspect.

I believe its a three week trial or something similar - get hunting whilst you can - yesterday I found an inquest in which my g grandfather was a witness & the obituary of another. Also the trial for bigamy of another ancestor's brother!

I've just found out about the wreck of a barque with all 18 hands lost, my relative was 1st officer and he left a widow & 8 children, I didn't know anything about his death and only thought he had two children, so lots more to find on that now
Fascinating....

Hmmm. The main problem is finding time for anything else. I haven't even read yesterday's paper yet!

It's all great fun, but did I really need to read that my great grandfather had a Chapel Cart for sale in 1899? And what was a chapel cart anyway?

Luckily(?) I have a mild dose of flu at the moment so don't feel too guilty about the amount of time I am spending immersed in ancient newsprint.

Is this normally a subscription site that can be used by the general public, and if so, how much does it cost to subscribe.
Or is it ususally accessed in libraries.

Sorry, I have no idea. I was told about it by the Upper Dales FHS discussion group and have done nothing more than follow appropriate links. I am now trying to do as much as possible before the trial period is up. And hoping that what is a three week trial will become a more permanent resource.

How cruel would it be, to show us all that this facility exists and then to take it away from us!
