Was the Andrew Hall marriage to a Mills in 1891, rather than 1892 ?

When you say " ... alas the Ashington records only start at 1896 or thereabouts. " do you mean St Aidan's RC church  in Ashington ?

But before 1896 the Ashington catholics would just have married in St Robert's, Morpeth, or even St Bede's , Bedlington. And wherever, a marriage would have been registered with the civil authorities
.

For the disciplined way the Irish named their children, google "irish naming pattern"

Hi again Michael - thanks for the reply.

You are right about the marriage date for Andrew to Honora - it was December 1991.  I found the pair as witnesses to a Hall marriage later in that decade and their address was in North Seaton so had expected to find them at Ashington's church records - I'm going on memory here but I think I've ruled them out of marrying at St Bede's.  I just wondered if the marriage records for Ashington - St Aiden's - had only been preserved from 1896 ish but ceremonies had been performed earlier than the records indicate.

Thanks also for the input re The Burt/Wellington Street information - I found the old map and had a look at it.  I called down to Blyth briefly the other day and had a quick look at where I think it may have been.  I'll go back and have a proper look when I get a chance.

As for the Mullarkeys of Bebside they are probably related - somehow.

Yours. J.A.
