I have every faith in you !
« on: Sunday 16 March 08 11:57 GMT (UK) »
I have phoned a friend , gone 50-50 but now that I have discovered RootsChat.com it is time to ask the audience.
WW1 , WW2 or in between ?
Do you think this is a hospital or convalescence home ?

Marvelous pic!!!

This is indeed one of the stately homes taken over by the military as a War Hospital...

The pic is around 1915, due to the Service Dress hats having their stiffeners still in...These were removed by order in 1916...

An interesting mix of Nurses...Mainly VAD, but the one in the middle in the dark uniform and broad brimmed hat has the uniform of a District Superintendent of the St John Ambulance...

Most of the men are wearing Hospital Blues apart form the few in Service Dress...

The Nurse at the back with the large veil is the Matron...
One more charge and then be dumb,

May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

thank you very much scrimnet. 1915 WW1 because of stiffeners in a hat ! That is very impressive.
g a r , having just began to dabble with Gimp I can appreciate how much effort goes in to learning that skill.
The talent and knowledge displayed in these pages is truely remarkable. The only criticism of this site is the lack of an applauding smiley  ;D

 :-[ :-[  :-\

  :) :)

BTW

The Hospital blues are a mid blue with white shirts white facings and a bright red tie...

The photo doesn't do them justice...

Hmmm Looking again, for some reason...they appear to be in some sort of fatigue dress, must have run out of blues for a while...Interesting...

But they do have the red ties and white shirts...

 ;)
