The information you are looking for is before civil registration started in Ireland so you would need to search for church records (if they still exist). To do so you need to know the family's religion and where they lived in Ireland (parish if not actual townland).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Kilcatherine Parish is now called Eyeries. If you type Kilcatherine as the Civil Parish at  http://www.thecore.com/seanruad/ you'll get a list of townlands in Kilcatherine parish.

Four of the six parishes of the Beara Peninsula are in County Cork but all are part of the Diocese of Kerry (see http://www.dioceseofkerry.ie/). I think you have to contact the Diocese to view the parish records.

You can search the archives of the Beara Mailing List at RootsWeb. I took a quick look and noticed that in Eyeries in the 1830's a Humphrey O'Sullivan also went by the "branch name" of Curtin/Cartun/Ceartan.

A new online database of parish  is available at http://www.irish-roots.ie/. However, South Cork isn't online yet.
