We need a bit more detail on the cap badge really.
The image is very small (file size not physical size) and hence no great detail.
Can you rescan at a higher resolution?
Name interests: Boulton, Murrell, Lock, Croxton, Skinner, Blewett, Tonkin, Trathen.

Indeed!

Look at his turn ups and lack of puttees!!

But yes, a high resolution scan of the badge would be ideal!
One more charge and then be dumb,

May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

Hi everyone, thanks for all your helpful suggestions, attached is my best effort (which still isn't very clear) so don't worry if you are unable to give me any more clues and thanks again.

Lindy :(

Soz, don't know his name but the other person in the original photo is my grandfather and he lived in Hebburn Tyne & Wear and am assuming the photo was taken in Newcastle upon Tyne.  Thought it may be the DLI but he does look very important (and formidable!) doesn't he.  :)
