I am sure that this Shepperton family is not us!

My John Hatton Vinden, Great grandfather, was born 1851 in Lambeth.  His father John born around 1821?  in or around London

There are similarities with the Cooper family  Living in Tyers Rd,   In the 1881 census John is 66  and born Shepperton and an Asphalt maker and Jane is 59???

What I guess I would really like is the birth certificate of John born 1821 that will give me mothers maiden name.  I have found a William and Mary Bennett which could have been I guess a second marriage for william and a marriage of a william and Sarah Hoar but the dates really don't fit properly.

This "Cooper" name is a real mystery.  I was not the clever one finding this. I found someone related to us in the UK who found and passed on this info.  We are both having trouble fitting it together.  One thing I know for sure is that I have notes of my grandfathers, James Johnson Hatton Vinden with the Tyers Street, address on them so the family certainly lived there.

Many thanks,

The 1851 census clearly shows John [Cooper], a Plasterer - born Shepperton and wife 'James' (Jane) born Fulham and child Jane, Lambeth.

I havent looked in 1861 etc - but noticed that the youinger John uses both Lambeth and Westminster in later years as his PoB    ::)

OK, the 1881 has transcribed John snrs age as 66 - its actually 61, but the clerks stroke thru it has confused things...

Asphalt maker is also John jnrs job I noticed in later years ....

so thats 2 census where he states his PoB as Shepperton ......

Dont think theres any doubt that he at least believed he was born in Shepperton !

Yep!  looks like it.  Thanks for that.  I didn't have the actual census just handwritten notes.  I will do that.

This Cooper thing??  It really does look like the same family, doesn't it?

Many, Many thanks for your help.

Someone else thinks it is the same family too

http://website.lineone.net/~mcgoa/v-london.html

I did some research for a friend by the name of Vinden & found this site - exchanged some information with the Web owner (& now I can't find the emails!) He had been researching Vindens for many years
