Help with cap badge ID please
« on: Monday 17 March 08 12:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I was stunned and delighted yesterday when I received this photo of my gg uncle and his sisters (they were triplets). Can anyone identify the cap badge please?

Thank you

Looks like Artillery,  the lanyard and the bandolier would suggest "horses"

Hi ev and cathaldus, thank you both for your help.  :D

Ev I spent ages before posting trawling through pictures of cap badges, but couldn't identify it, I couldn't see the wood for the trees or whatever the equivalent would be in this case!

cathaldus is the bandolier the ammo pouches across his shoulder?

I have just looked at the medal cards and I think I may have found him. His name is Philip Reginald McConnell (on birth record). There is a card for Philip W McConnell in the Royal Field Artillery. On the 1901 census Philip (and all the family) have been given the middle name of Welch. So do you think I can say this is him?   :-\
So I have his regimental number and he was a driver, if this is him how I can find out what Battalion/division he was in? Sorry more questions.
Thank you both again

As does the riding crop he is holding and his spurs which can just be made out....

The bandolier is part of the 1903 bandolier equipment...

Deffo Royal Artillery...But which branch???

The medal card may hold some clues with which we can work

Hi ev,

Was just about to post the details, but you beat me to it  :) Yes thats the one I was looking at.
Thanks Scrimnet for your confirmation. Is it unusual for there not to be other information recorded ,like the theatre of war etc?

If one of the stars are awarded, it would usually give date of entry into theatre...
