Hi scrimnet and ev,

There is nothing recorded against any of the other medals. I forgot to say in my first post that I do have another photo of him which I posted a few months ago .By the pith helmet and the name of the photographers studio looks like he was in India. He was just wearing a plain tunic in that one. At that stage I had no idea what regiment he was in as there was no cap badge etc. Does him being in India narrow down what branch he was in?

Thanks for your help

Hi harribobs, so it would be just a clerical error that its not recorded on his medal card  ???

they are probably just ditto'd together and the copying has obscured the ditto marks

they were issued together and recorded as one in the same roll

Hi

Does seem rather strange though.  You'd expect te ditto marks to be underneath the written entry.

Whereas in this case there is no comment on the top line for the Victory medal.  The written 'Roll & Page' entry comes underneath at the British medal line.

So it might just be a clerical error .... !!  ::)

Hi Chris, atom12 and ev, thank you for your replys.

It does seem a bit strange. On the other medal cards on the same page the ditto marks are always really clear and as atom12 said the ditto marks for the british medal are underneath the written entry for the Victory medal. It would be just my luck for there to be a clerical error on the one I was looking at!
Were the British and Victory medal always awarded together? Are there any other resources which might tell me?

I'm pretty sure that my relative served in India at least during part of the war, would that make a difference  ??? would his regiment number give me any clues as to his enrollment date or the brigade he was attached to?
Sorry, so many more questions!
Thanks again
