Stony,
John Beattie and wife Jannet Holliday are or were buried at Canonbie.

From the memorial:-
John died aged 68 on 28th October 1769
Jannet died aged 56 on 11th February 1775
On the reverse of the stone:
Margaret Byers spouse to Samuel Beattie who perished in/on Caulfieldhill
April 8th 1826 aged 27 years.

Thanks for the information about John Beattie and Jannet Holliday - I knew about the inscription regarding Margaret Byers, but I couldn't recall whether the stone was in Canonbie or elsewhere.  Will have to try and find it when i next go up Langholm way! ;)

Had a good wander round Canonbie churchyard recently, but no sign of a Beattie/Halliday stone.....   :'(

Back to the old drawing board, I suppose! ::)

Sorry about that Stoney.  It's a long way to wander  :)

I wondered whether there was a map of the graves in the  Canonbie transcriptions that were done in the 1960s but apparently there isn't.  Some include such a map.

You could possibly contact the Lengholm Archive Centre by phone or email.   They may be able to help in some way.   They republished the original with permission I understand.

Isobel,
I hope you are still available to look up something for me in the Canobie 1786-1805 Indexes that you have. My interests are ARMSTRONG and JARDINE. I am especially looking for a John Armstrong and his wife Nicholas Jardine Armstrong (< gggg grandmother tho name is Nicholas)  I would truely appreciate it especially since a cousin may be traveling to that area soon in hopes of locating our "family" gravestones.
Thank you

The Dumfries and Galloway Family Society have a printed list of all of the headstones in Canonbie and many other graveyards.
As a matter of interest as a student of the Armstrong family in the Canonbie area I have found the name Nicholas as a female name on many occasions.

Hi Pamal
Yes.....How could I obtain a copy also??? My (5th) cousin who lives in Ireland is traveling to Scotland in August to search for gravestones, I would love to make his trek easier. I am in the US so it is even harder for me. I have learned Nicholas is not un common for a woman back then.....BUT I am hoping it will help if even a little to locate them. Any advice on where to obtain that info would be greatly appreciated!!!!!Thnx
Sue
