You can search for their children in the full GRO index - available at county record offices and main libraries in the UK, and online at http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx (I think it's still free here, although you may need to sign in as a guest) and at http://www.findmypast.com (paysite).  It takes a while to work through the quarters, but with a little patience you can usually find the info you need!
