If you're sure he was born in Northumberland (and the year)  then this was probably his birth registration-

Oh dear.   No you don't know all about them.  You have been given a possible scenario.  Indeed a probable one but you cannot accept it without further proof.  You will see that Geoffe does say "if you're sure" and "probably"!
The best way is to work backwards and prove each step as you go along.   In the 1900s one way to be sure is to buy a certificate.   So, if you get George's marriage certificate and his father is named as George B and is a coal worker then that is reasonable proof and you can then take them back through the census records.    You could also check the death record for George and see if it gives a date of birth.   That would help to build up the picture.
It is always best to double check all these things.  I would hate you to chase off along the wrong line!
