The easiest thing would be to post the card on here so we can take a look.

Hi bb

Any chance of posting a scan? Here is a link to help you interpret the MIC - http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/medals.asp

There should be a date in the bottom left corner showing when he left the UK. This is to confirm his entitlement to the 14-15 Star

He was obviously in the two regiments. Are you sure there isn’t another number, lower than 113598? That Cheshire Regiment number would have been issued late on in the war. And the fact that his 1914-15 star was issued while he was in the Machine Gun Corps shows that he was in that first unless there is another number.

The MGC was only created in October1915, so for him to enlist in that and then go overseas still in 1915 would be unusual unless he had been in another unit.

No idea what ‘milford boy’ means. The Victory Medal would have been issued with the British War Medal, so there will be ditto marks below the VM. What you have is the Medal Index Card, and the reference and page number relate to the medal roll itself, which would be one line per man. He will be on two rolls: one for the 14-15 Star and one for the VM/BWM. The second roll will tell you which battalion (of the Cheshires) he was in. As a corps the MGC would have been spread out amongst other units, but if you can find out which battalion of the Cheshires he was in you can find out what they got up to.

No problem Belinda.

Presumably you've downloaded the card after paying your £3.50, so you have it on your PC as a pdf file (ie exactly as downloaded).

When you click "reply" on this message for example, you're taken to the page where you can write your message and post it (I'm sure you're familiar with it).
On that page, just below the space where you write your message you'll see the option to "attach a photograph or image (and other options).."
Click on that, then click on "browse" alongside the first box. Find the relevant file on your PC, highlight it and click on "Open". The filepath should then appear in the first box.

Click "Post" as normal and (fingers crossed) your image will appear in your post.

Hi Belinda

I will have more time tomorrow, but it doesn’t say ‘medley boy’ but ‘MGC/101 B51’. That is the medal roll for the VM and BWM.

For others following the thread the number in the Cheshires is 13598.
