hello am posting this again.as belive did it on the wrong board. just had a reply back .from geneva.i made a inquiry.
 about my grandfather.as to where he possibly may have been held.p.o.w.first world war.was captured by the german army.it turns out was held in Mannheim .27.8.1918.
could any -one out there tell me about this camp.i keep putting it on the web . but nothing comes up .
grandfather would not talk about this period . he died in 1957. so i did not know him . have is war documents .but this only states ,was held p.o.w. in germany.

hello.annie .that was a very quick response.to my querry.
here goes. my grandfather was thomas edward smith.
born 30.12.1894.selby .12 douglas street.yorkshire.
examined 4th day of jan.1915.number 2999.
annie .was shot and very badly wounded at bullcourt 3rd may 1917.when recovered asked to go back to the front.
was given a new number 201082.unit was the 2/5th west yorkshire. sent to france .may1918 was shot again while in gemany,and captured . and held p.o.w . i did not know where till the letter from the red cross arrived .

You were lucky to get information from Geneva ..... good for you !
So you want to know as much as possible from the camps - right ? theres a couple of men on here who will probably be able to help you better than me ... but I'll start looking and see what I can find OK ?

hello. annie .yes i have is pension papers. they were e-mailed to me. by a wonderful person .called ady.
i also have a photo of grandfather .before setting of to france. i blew it up from a newspaper article . called past times.uncle fred now 91 .  sent it to me .
