On SP:
There is a death in 1892 of an Annie Herriot / other surname Blackie / aged 70 / South Leith / Edinburgh City.

Sounds likely - I don't have enough credits left to view full image.
Record should show parents and perhaps other info to confirm this is the correct one.

Hope this helps.

Search under John Heriot born 1826 +/- 1 shows 1 result:
1899 death John Heriot age 74, again in South Leith.

Is that him?

Dave

PS - The knack is not being too specific with your searches on SP.
For example.
In the case of John, I searched for Her* John and keyed in no other fields.  That showed 1000+ names, I then narrowed it down to births 1826 +/- 3 which gave me 19 matches.  I usually narrow it down until I have as close to 25 matches and then pay my 1 credit to look at the names / areas - you can then choose the most likely to spend the further 5 credits on.  I got lucky with John Heriot.

I used the same sort of process for Ann.

Hope this helps you in the future.  SP can be very expensive.

Dave

Hi
Thanks for your help, I had 1 credit left and I am sure it is my GGGrandfather. I know what you mean by using the credits correctly by starting with 25 names on the search list.

Thanks once again.

Ann

Gimme 10 minutes, I'm about to buy some more credits for my own research.
I'll do it as a favour once but normally i stick to the 20p searches for others.  I've been stung before. :(
Since your starting out Ann.... hey, that's what this sites about.  Helping out and sharing.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well done Dave.

Hello Ann,

I take it that you have all the children born to John Heriot and Ann Blakie?  A search of the IGI - www.familysearch.org. shows the following children born to the couple.

'Submitted' entries

Thomas Herriot b abt 1848, Bolton, East Lothian
Walter Herriot b. abt 1850, Bolton, East Lothian

'Extracted' entries -

Margaret Herriot b. 09 Sep 1856, Yester, East Lothian
John Herriot  b. 08 Sep 1859, Yester, East Lothian
Matthew Herriot b. 10 Jul 1862, Yester, East Lothian

Regards,   Steve   :O)
