This is quite ancient history that leads to Wrexham Abbot and Wrexham Regis.Wrexham Abbot signified that part of the town that belonged to the Church, whereas Wrexham Regis was belonging to the Crown.

Hi W.R. could you please take a look at simone's post, on look up requests.
the only  Edward Swinnerton, swinerton, Swinnington, Simmarton I could find is sometimes Abbot sometimes Regis. In your opinion could they all be the same chap?
Thanks.

Paul.

From what you put Paul, they could very well be the same chap.Whether he lived Abbot or Regis though isn't a factor.

Thank you both very much :)  That's explains it then, I was thinking they were 2 different places ::)
I'm hopeless at georgraphy :-\  Take after my ancestors, they were supposed to be in one place and keep finding them in others ;D

Thanks again

As I said Simone,it is more historical than geographical. It was one of the few things I learnt at Ruabon Grammar School!

Hello there. I have found that it is very often down to the Census Enumerator whether or not he has written it down as Wrexham Abbot or Wrexham Regis.
