Hello there. I have found that it is very often down to the Census Enumerator whether or not he has written it down as Wrexham Abbot or Wrexham Regis.

Well its not strictly true,as I tried to explain in my earlier posting, part of Wrexham belonged to the Church historically, and part belonged to the Crown. To this day in Wrexham we have Regent Street and Abbot Street.

Yes, William  :)

Your mention of Regent Street brought back memories of  the old Wrexham - before the bypass and other developments. I went to the Tech for 3 months. It's not the same now  :'(  I do have a giggle at the webcam though - doesn't that point up Regent Street?

I think I might have some maps somewhere - there must be a physical division between the two. It can't have been at the enumerator's discretion. I expect the descriptions on the front of the various census books would describe the cut of.

I think the Webcam is where the old Wrexham Library was,in what is now known as Queen's Square.

Paul, without doubt there were two parts to Wrexham - Regis and Abbott but what I meant by my comment was that I have census returns for certain members of my family which are not consistent.

For instance, for the six returns from 1851 four may say Regis and two Abbot according to whomever recorded the Census.

It surely depended where they lived.
