I am a member of Ancestry, would you think this would be a good time to take advantage of there 14 day trial, sounds a little mean but would i get all i want, or would the 14 day be limited.

Thank you kindly for the help..

Hi Blue-Spirit

Yes the full records of British Army 1914-1920.  I have found one of mine with 18 pages, very enlightening.  (Attestation papers, medical history, next of kin (gives marriage date and children), where they served, etc., etc!). You do need an Ancestry subscription to access them but as mentioned earlier only 40% survived.  Also available is the British Army Pension Records 1914-1920 for those who claimed their pension, but some I was looking for are missing  :-\

Yes a very good time to take advantage of trial, as far as I'm aware this gives you access to every record.  You have to give credit card details even though it's free trial, but just remember to email them to cancel before the 14 days are up.

Thanks everyone - a very useful thread.
Can someone please tell me if a soldier went on to serve again in WW2 would their records be at Kew, or have gone to Historical Disclosures at Glasgow? Or would there perhpas be records at both?
I might be wrong but I'm sure I read that upper age limits increased in WW2; the person I'd be looking for would have been about 46 years of age at the start of WW2.
Would be grateful for your halp and advice.
Kind regards,
Paulene.
P.S. I know on Wendi's useful thread it says to contact historical disclosures for army records for those leaving forces between 1921 and 1997, but I just wondered if anyone had had this situation, and if everything had come from historical disclosures, or had found information some might be still be at Kew (especially if there had been a long gap in between service).

Hi Willow

I believe the upper age limit was raised to 45 for WW2.

The records at Kew are for WW1 British Army 1914-1920.

Start another thread with your query this will perhaps bring it to the notice of more RootsChatters who may just have the answer.

Hi Harribobs

Your correct, according to the Ancestry site the records contain approximately half the collection.
I've been fortunate to find all the ones I was looking for including those previously found at Kew.
