I thought I had entered this message yesterday, but I cant find it, so if Im repeating myself forgive me but this is the first message i have written
Would anyone be able to help me find my ancestors origins. With a name like William Williams I have reached an impasse!!
Born in 1785  died in 1829, he was an attorney in Greengate St in Caernarvon
Jan 1812 he married Margaret Jones born 1786  died 1857
They married in Llanbeblig church, witnesses were both called Robert Williams
I have the dates of births etc from the memorial inscriptions on the grave in Llanbeblig
Children were

Ann 1814-1815
John 1815-1825
twins Elizabeth and David 1818
Richard Maddock 1820-1869
Ann Margaret 1821
Margaret 1823
Mary 1825
1841 census Margaret Williams, Mary and Richard living in Greengate St
1851             Margaret,Elizabeth,Anne Margaret,Mary and Richard Maddock living in Palace St
1861 Royal Victoria Llanberis Richard hotel keeper plus sisters Ann Margaret and Margaret
1871 and 1881 Ann Margaret  hotel keeper
My problem is who were Williams parents and where was he born
Any help greatly appreciated ,  many thanks  Carol

Hello Carole and welcome to Rootschat!

I can't help you with your query, but you have posted this twice, the first post was in the Wales General board, this one is in the Caernarvonshire board.

Don't worry, we all forgive you, you're a newbie! ;D ;D  And if you lose your posts again, just click on the baby's face underneath your name bit to the left of any of your own posts, and then click on the blue line that says something like "show posts of this Rootschatter" or similar, and it will bring up a list of all the posts you have made.

Have fun on Rootschat, it is very addictive this ancestor searching, isn't it?

Kind regards
Gaie

Carol

I believe you are in luck!

Below (translated) is from a book published in 1868 about the local history of an area known as Waen Gynfi (villages of Deiniolen, Clwt y Bont)

William Williams,Maes Y Dref was the father of Mr Williams, White Horse, (the attorney) and the grandfather of Mr Williams who currently holds the Victoria Hotel, Llanberis.

There is more which can take you back many generations.

Which one do you link back to?
Are you conversant with the area and do you understand Welsh?
Also have you an actual date for Richard Williams death in 1869.

This is fantastic
thankyou so much. I link back to David Williams who moved to London, married and his grandaughter
being the eldest of ten was sent back to Llanberis to live with her aunt and so was brought up in Wales
I would love to hear about the further back generations. How does the Maddock fit in?
Yes I do know the area and can understand welsh
I only have the death registration for Richard, being the 1st quarter 1869
Hope to hear from you soon, thanking you for making contact

Carol

Many people will envy you being able to crack a brickwall of which William Williams was the father of a William Williams pre 1837!

Possibly the best way forward is for you to PM me your email so that in the next few days I can scan a copy of the relevant info to you.

I know nothing further on the family of the William Williams the solicitor etc so I don't know where the Maddock came from.
Keith Morris from Caernarfon has a great site re that town.

William Williams is on it as a Solicitor at the relevant time but I can't see anything that links him to the White Horse, which seems to be a pub on Bangor Street.

Although it does not concern my own families directly,my cousin's Williams Family owned the White Horse in Bangor St in Caernarfon from about 1850 onwards. She will also be curious as to the Robert Williams named as a witness to the Marriage of William Williams. She has a Robert Williams who she is looking at as the father of a John Williams born in Llanbeblig in 1814.This John Williams married a Margaret Parry in 1837,and by 1851 was in the White Horse at Bangor St.
