COOP - Leeds, Yorkshire
« on: Tuesday 25 March 08 07:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I've received from the OH's grandmother a page that I believe belonged in a family bible. Unfortunately, it is really delicate and in 7 pieces (the eighth missing) having being folded up for years

It reads:

JAMES SPARLING COOP
Born April 25 1845
Leathley Road Hunslet Lane
---------------------------------------

FRANCES AMELIA REBECCA DEUTSHMAN
Born April 9 1848
Newcastle Upon Tyne
Wife of James Sparling Coop
----------------------------------------

George Sparling Coop
Born March 27 1869
at 5 o'clock morning at Henbury Street, North Street

-----------------------------------------

James Deutshman Coop
Born Jan 17 1871
at 5 minutes to 10 in the morning at North Street
------------------------------------------
Sarah Rebecca Coop
Born June 21 1873
at twenty minutes to seven at Green Street, Cherry Row
------------------------------------------
Percy Adlophus Coop
Born December 7 1875
at 5 minutes to 6 in the morning at Boy and Barrel yard, Briggate Leeds
-------------------------------------------

[the next two names are missing; all that can be read is:

... 1878
... Barrell Yard Briggate
---------------------
... 1880
... & Barrell Yard

I think they refer to DENNIS DIXON COOP and THOMAS M COOP

------------------------------------------------

Arthur Coop
Born July 19 1884
at 27 Mushroom Street Newtown Leeds
-------------------------------------------------
Isaac Deutchman Coop
Born Jan 26 1887
at twenty seven Mushroom Street, Newtown Leeds
-----------------------------------------------

Hope that's of interest to someone. Arthur appears to be the only one without a middle name! :)

Hi rummager and welcome to rootschat
Thank you for your R2M.  Once you have made another post you will be able to use our personal message system to contact Carrie Lou.  You click on the green scroll under her name.  In the meantime I have sent her a pm to alert her to your post but she has not been online here since 2008 so if she has changed her email address she may not get it and then we have no means of contacting her.   Reply to this and you should be able to use the pm system.  I hope you are successful.
regards
Andrea

Andrew,

I know that this is slightly off topic, but James Sparling Coop and his wife are buried in Beckett Street Cemetery in Leeds.  The monumental inscription gives details of James' parents.  If you would like further details, let me know.

Best Wishes

Hello sillgen and CJL: many thanks for helping out--is much appreciated. I am hoping that the Coops may have some information about Frances' mother Ellen Deutschman nee Bell.
And yes please I'd very much like the information about Frances and James' grave sites in Leeds.

Frances' sister Matilda emigrated to Australia in 1884 with her husband, her brother in law, her 2 year old daughter (my grandmother), and an infant son. Frances' youngest sister, Augusta, followed a few later. Second oldest sister, Leonorah, married the very successful Leeds  master tailor David Lubelski.

Best,

Andrew

Hello CJL: thank you so much. I have passed this information to Dot, who is Frances AR Coop's great niece. It is tragic to learn about relatives who were killed in action in WW1. Dot's father was seriously wounded at Gallipoli.

Best

Andrew,

You are most welcome.  I took a look at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.  I was unable to locate an Isaac Coop but found a John Coop a Private in the 9th Bn Royal Scots Service No 352191 who died on the 23rd April 1917 aged 30 years.  He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.

Additional information states  Son of Mrs.  Amelia Rebecca Coop of 214 Manor Terrace, Horsforth, Leeds.

Best Wishes
