That Elizabeth married an Andrew Howden

For what it's worth, there is a George William Hobbs marrying an Elizabeth Reid, in 1889, Moy, Inverness.

Hi gadget,

Not sure if the John you found was the brother of Elizabeth, wife of George Hobbs. They may have been cousins etc, or just friends if they had stayed in Haddington together. the relationship says visitor, I would have expected Brother in Law, Cousin etc

Hi Tom

John was just a visitor and fitted everything that spittalhill specified. Might just have been an acquaintance/ friend of the family - young lad in big city (South of Watford) and all that.

I don't think we should be overly concerned about Elizabeth.

Elizabeth Hobbs was definitely not John Somerville's sister. Must have just been an acquaintance from Haddington. Elizabeth Burnet Somerville was his sister and married Andrew Burns Howden on 12.2.1896
