1861 census - John Rees and family
« on: Friday 28 March 08 11:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi list

Could someone please look at the 1861 census to see where John Rees
was living?

He was born about 1812, and in 1841 and 1851 he was at Blaenhiraeth,
Llannon with his wife Margaret and various children.  By 1871 he was
living at Ty'rheol with his Margaret and Catherine, 17.

Can someone please tell me where, and with whom, he was in 1861?  He
was my great great grandfather.

Many thanks.

Cyfrifydd

Hi, I've been trying to locate this family for you but with little success so far.  Where is Ty'rheol?  Is that the name of the village or their address at the time? Which area is it in, Llanon or elsewhere?  Also what were the names and ages of the other children they had as this might help narrow it down a bit.

Looking at the 1871 it could just be the name of a cottage or house, as all of them have different names at each household. That is if I have the correct one ???

Thanks that helps as they are in Llanelli so now I know which area to search in.

Nope I can't find the family anywhere.  I shall however continue to try and locate them.  I shall update you if i have any luck.

I would have to agree with you Ricky1, there are only four Catherine Rees's in the whole of Wales with the parents John and Margaret.  The only one who is 7 is in Merthyr which is some distance from the other locations so it's doubtful this is them.  They also have three younger children so I think this rules them out.

It seems that this family is one of those who somehow missed out the census.  I've had this happen a few times myself.  Good luck with your research and if I ever locate them I shall let you know.

Hi Ricky and Mygenes

Just seen your replies - thanks.  Got to go out to meetings now and probably won't be able to provide any further info until tomorrow.

John and Margaret (Peggy) were both born about 1812 and were married in 1832.

According to my records, children were Marged, Mary, John, Elizabeth (Betsy), Dafydd, William, Henry, Edward, Jonathon and Catherine.  Born fairly regularly from 1832.

In 1841 and 1851 they were at Blaenhiraeth, Llannon, Carmarthenshire.

Will reply tomorrow.
