Robert Nathaniel WRIGHT
« on: Tuesday 01 April 08 20:22 BST (UK) »
My ancestor, Robert Nathaniel Wright was born in London in 1880.  He joined the Royal Navy but deserted his ship whilst it was stationed in Nova Scotia in 1903.

I have searched the Canadian 1911 census but can't seem to find him.  Could he have crossed the border into the US?  Are there any on-line records that are easily searched for Canada/United States?

From www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline, is he the Robert Wright b. 1 Nov 1880 in Holborn? If so, he's not on the SSDI (ssdi.rootsweb.com).

Ancestry seems to have some record of a Robert Nathaniel Wright who signed up for the draft in IL (I can't access it, myself).
http://www.ilsos.gov/GenealogyMWeb/idphdeathsrch.html - shows a Robert Nathaniel Wright, died aged 55 in 1935, Springfield, Sangamon Co, IL.  A possiblity? It would have been fairly easy for him to cross the border into the US, and probably a good idea if he wanted to keep himself well away from the RN.

Thanks for you reply.  Yes he is the Robert b. 1 Nov 1880 and I have a copy of his service record.  I've not heard of the two sites you quote but I'll be checking them out today.  Many thanks
