Is this thread really 3 years old! 

I received John Pearson's will yesterday and it looks very interesting.

His executor is one Samuel Pearson - a friend - was hoping it might say nephew or son... oh well, there may still be a connection there.

But the really exciting bit is this....

He leaves it all to one Sarah Ann CARBY (yes not DARBY) the wife of John CARBY, and words to the effect of John CARBY can't get his hands on any of it!

Blimey!!!

So that means that they were never married they just lived in sin - oh the shame 

The will is dated shortly before John died in 1878 so unless there was a last minute change in status, they never tied the knot - because she was still married.

So I've been to freeBMD this morning and found the marriage of a Sarah Ann ROBERTS to one John CARBY in 1848 in Sheffield - will be getting that cert for sure.

Off to see what else I can dig up -  so very pleased!
