Can anyone with local knowledge translate a possible location in these two census entries? Thanks, Carole

Hi Carole

I'm just wondering if its Horsford http://www.origins.org.uk/genuki/NFK/places/h/horsford/ and the second one is a phonetic spelling?  But there is also a Horstead with Stanninghall.  http://www.origins.org.uk/genuki/NFK/places/h/horstead/

I'd say it was Horstead, the ending of each looks like 'sted'

second one must 'ave dropped the 'aitch!

See http://www.coltishall-norfolk.co.uk/

(sorry, link seems to take you to Cotishall, though heading says Cottishall & Horstead, and so does map if you click on 'map' at the side)

Thanks for those two suggestions, they could well have dropped the aitch, the gentleman in question (John Barber) ended up in Marylebone!
