Hi Wendy   :)

Thanks for your reply & your welcome.its much appreciated

I have not tried the War graves commision , possibly my question , when i read it , reads a bit oddly

My first mistake it was WWI & he was in the Royal Navy, ,but i am maybe wrong. i thought they only recorded Airforce & Army

So i will have a look,Sorry for any confusion , senior moments seem to happen more often now

I have nothing else to go on apart from the date & year on the memorial

Many thanks for your reply, it is so encourging when someone does
Ron

No probs Ron, I have been on a bit of a Geography lesson  ;D but I think I might have found something for you.

Crail is one of the most picturesque villages in the East Neuk of Fife.  Fyfe lies on the East Coast of Scotland........

So how about David Edmond Beaty, Wireless Operator in the Merchantile Marine, died on the SS Umgeni 9th November 1917,

Son of Alexander Swan Beaty and Euphemia McDonald Beaty (nee Edmond), of Station House, Longniddry, East Lothian. Born at Cambus, near Alloa.

Here is his entry on CWGC website

Nice one ev !!!

It would appear that the SS Umgeni left Clyde in a convoy for Lagos on 7th Nov. 1917, the convoy ran into bad weather a couple of days later, and the Umgeni was never seen again, but bodies and wreckage washed up along the west coast of Ireland.  :(
