I'm full of questions today..

Can I post it here as an attachment?  Or is it copyrighted?

You could post a portion of the medal card that you can't read what's written on it.  ;)

It's not that I can't read the writing (although it's not crystal clear) but more that I don't understand the terminology.

Here's a snippet:

Hi Tsu

It would appear that your Gr Great uncle, George Jones, was an 'Old Contemptible'.  It indicates that he got the 1914 Star, sometimes called the "Mons Star".
As you can see it is noted that his 1914 Star medal has been lost, and this appears to have been Registered for replacement, ie 1914 Clasp & Roses

He was also awarded the General Service Medal with Clasps - for what I have no idea, but this could indicate that he had service either before or after WW1.

He served with the (7th!) Rifle Brigade.  His qualifying date for his 1914 Star Medal is noted as 7th November 1914.

Someone else will probably be able to elaborate some more for you.

Hello Tsu,

It's a bit hard to read but it looks like the General Service Medal was issued for Iraq (10th December 1919 to 17th November 1920).

This link will show you what the medal looked like:

Hi

Meant to say that he was also awarded the Victory Medal and British War Medal along with his 1914 Star.

His Regimental number as a Private soldier was 4108.  By the time he reached Sergeant it looks as though his Regimental number had changed - to the longer number underneath.

Tsu,

Did you know that there are two medal index cards for your g-g-uncle.
There appears to be another one in the gallantry awards:

Wow! Tsu,  :)

Another great find by Forester.

Just thought I'd mention that the 1914 Star was awarded to members of the British Expeditionary Forces who served in France and Belgium between 5th August 1914 and midnight on 23rd November 1914.  Also the Bar to the 1914 Star, with the Rosette on the ribbon was awarded to those who actually came under fire between these dates.
