Just to clarify (because my head's spinning now), is this my man?  This is the first medal card I purchased when I searched on "George Jones 6/8479" on the National Archives site.
East London:
Happe/Hoppe (St. Georges in the East)
Stanley (middle name Thurston)
Rondeau (Spitalfields and Salford)

Wood (London City)
McDermott (Londonderry and Stepney)
Upcraft (Bethnal Green)
Chidgey (Shoredtich)
Grim (Bethnal Green)
Row (Mast makers in Wapping)
Spurden (Stepney and Pancras)
Glibbery (Bishopsgate)

Hello Tsu,

I'm afraid not. That man (4108) survived the war and was still in the army in the early 1920's.

As Ady says, if you have the medals, check the number on the rim. If the number is 6/8479, then the MIC you want is definitely the one that Ady has linked to in Reply No. 17 above. With the SDGW entry matching what you already know, I would be 99% sure it was the right one anyway.

Phil

Ady's link again to save you looking for it:

That's him Tsu  :)

Like the first soldier you thought it might be, he is still an Old Contemptible, so would be entitled to all the war medals as mentioned earleir (except the other soldier also had a GSM).

I love it here!

Thanks for all your help...  :)

Oh and George was the son of Ellen Jones (Née Rondeau) who is the woman in my avatar.

I don't have a picture of George.

Thank you for trying to help, my problem is in changing the PDF to an image file. I'm not very proficient with Adobe reader, I tried selecting the relevant card, then could only save it to the clipboard, and could only save it to desktop as another PDF. So I'm still struggling. I thought of trying 'print screen' but haven't done that before, so more struggles in view! I've also tried saving it as a Word file but just get gobbledygook!

Hi Giraffe.

Just do print screen, then open Paint and choose 'edit, then paste'  You can trim the pictire if you want, then choose file/ save as and make sure you save is as a .jpg file (they're much smaller than .bmp files and you can post them in more places.

Thank you Tsu, I'm really grateful for your time and alowing me to 'invade' your topic. Haven't tried yet, but your instructions are so clear I'm sure it will work. Thank you again, and good luck with your searches,

Well done Tsu  :)

And the note under the medals awarded box is "Killed in Action".
