Tsu
George was according to CWGC 43yrs old when KIA 1916 making his DOB around 1873 so couldnt be son of Ellen if she wasnt born til 1885??

He was also possibly a National Reservist one of the first to be recalled in 1914, so he may have served prior to Great War??

 :)

Yes, I think that most likely that he served before WW1, so is likely to have Service documents available at Kew to peruse.   ;)

I had total brain failure....  ;D

Ellen Rondeau was his sister-in-law.  She was married to Thomas Jones, brother of George.

I think I need a lie-down in a quiet, dark room somewhere... LOL

Thanks for all your help everyone!

Theees  eees veeeery interesting....  :)

The Jones bit of my family is an almost complete closed book.  My nan and her sister never talked about grandparents or aunts and uncles, and it's only been since I started doing the family tree a year or so ago that I discovered that as well as George and Thomas, there were three sisters!
I can't find any trace of them after 1881 for two of them and 1901 for the third.  Can't even find deaths for them.

I found George and Martha Jones (nee GRIM) from the service number of George and scouring the census inforrtion until I found the right combination of George (father) Martha(mother) George (son and Thomas (son).  I also knew George the elder's occupation (Commission Agent) from Thomas's marriage certificate.

I have no inforamtion about George except a box with the medals in.  I summize that he never married as his parents were his next of kin, but I'm not even 100% sure of that.  I'd love to know why he was in Felixstowe when the rest of the family were in Bethnal Green...

It's compelling to have to winkle bits of inormation out and a hobby that I'm really enjoying.

Yep, it can be totally compelling Tsu, as you are  doubtless discovering.

Just to say that if you do feel compelled to visit Kew, wait another month or two until they have completed the renovations.    Plus, once the better weather appears  ::) if the fancy takes you , you can sit outside on a bench or the grass and enjoy a picnic  :)

Felixstowe was up until fairly recently a large barrack town...

Ex army types if they have no familiy tend to hang around the only familiy they know...The Regt!
One more charge and then be dumb,

May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.
