Hello Tsu,
I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but how did you get your medal card to attach? I tried my PDF image from National Archives, but got an error message saying rootschat couldn't accept this type of file. I've tried to save it as another file ending, but no luck. Hope you don't mind my asking, and that you can help me,

Hi

I can see that the image has been saved as a Jpeg (used a lot  for  pictures) therefore easy to attach on here as an image file.

Does that help!  Once saved as a jpeg, you click onto "Attach a photograph or image (and other options).."

then  click on 'Browse' and find your image presumably among your pictures - or wherever you saved it to .... once chosen, click on 'Open' and the file will attach to your post.

Thank you for trying to help, my problem is in changing the PDF to an image file. I'm not very proficient with Adobe reader, I tried selecting the relevant card, then could only save it to the clipboard, and could only save it to desktop as another PDF. So I'm still struggling. I thought of trying 'print screen' but haven't done that before, so more struggles in view! I've also tried saving it as a Word file but just get gobbledygook!

Hello Tsu,

It's a bit hard to read but it looks like the General Service Medal was issued for Iraq (10th December 1919 to 17th November 1920).

This link will show you what the medal looked like:

Phil

Hi Phil,

No, he sadly died on August 18, 1916 at The Somme.

The medal card was in four parts, I'll try to post the other bits.

This is all really interesting as all we have is the medals and no information.

Wow!

Hi Giraffe.

Just do print screen, then open Paint and choose 'edit, then paste'  You can trim the pictire if you want, then choose file/ save as and make sure you save is as a .jpg file (they're much smaller than .bmp files and you can post them in more places.

Here's the gallantry medal crad, but I'm wondering if he's the right George Jones now.  Mine definitely died 18 Aug 1917, he's on the Theipval memorial, but this second medal card seems to mention dates in 1917 and 1918.

I am sure about the service number, because we got that from the medals. 6/8479

Are they the same person??  I'm confused now. (It doesn't take much...)  ;D

They are to 4 different lads.
The 7th Rifle Brigade Distinguished  Conduct Medal was Gazetted in 1917 but he may have been awarded it before. There is usually a citation in the LG for a DCM.
The date of the gazette you want(if it is your man ? i dont think it is different rank, number and date suggests not??) is on the card.Did you find any other cards with his number?
